On January 27th, 2018, 8 students were chosen to attend Portfolio Workshop Day at West Davenport High School in Davenport, Iowa.
We started the day bright and early at 6:00 am. We were on the road for 3+ hours traveling to Davenport.
The day at the high school consisted of portfolio reviews from recruiters from colleges, attending art sessions, talking to present art students, and listening to a presentation by artist Rose Frantzen.
We concluded the day with a shopping trip to Blick art supply store in Iowa City and explored the city with a quick stop to Which Wich? for sandwiches.
The chosen students were: Alena Allen (11th) Alex Arman (11th) Andrea Rosales (11th) Emily Partida (11th) George Hicks (11th) Victoria Swartz (11th) Jessica Vazquez (12th) Josh Sisk (12th)
Guest Artist Speaker: Rose Frantzen
Rose Frantzen gave a wonderful and eyeopening speech about her life and how she became an artist. All through her story she was inspiring and gave advice on how to become successful as an artist. She makes works from portraits of people to paintings of landscapes. She has been many places around the world displaying her art. She has also, "achieved her dream," as Rose said, when she was able to display her artwork "Portrait of Maquoketa" in the Figge Art Museum in Davenport, Iowa.
